Colebrook Project
For this landscaping project in Connecticut, we expanded upon a landscape architect's design. Our clients were putting an addition on their home and needed proper landscaping to unite the old and new sections of the building.
For the walkway in front, we used large square blocks of granite from the area to simulate an old-fashioned cobblestone street. In between the stones, we planted creeping thyme as a ground cover to soften the stone look.
Behind the house, we installed a large stone patio with mature shrubbery. |
Eventually, we planted trees to add interest and height: white birches, dogwoods, hawthorne tree, and crimson cloud.
Later we also added a water garden, sunken into the patio, but have no photos of it. |
The grounds with this house are idyllic: a hidden path through the woods covered with wood chips and lined with mountain laurel, azaleas, and rhododendrons. At the end of the path, about 800' from the house, is a clearing with green lawns and a natural water garden. We installed curtain drains to dry the meadow area and surrounding areas and diverted the water to the pond. The clients added a gazebo to complete the picture. |
